The process of humanitarian demining continues in Kyiv region, in particular, mine action operators continue non-technical surveys of de-occupied territories. This was announced by the Main Department of Mine Action, Civil Protection and Environmental Safety.
Recently, a meeting dedicated to the demonstration of new demining methods and practices was held in the Velikodymer village council of the Brovar district.
Colonel Oleg Shuvarskyi, deputy head of the Main Department of Mine Action, took part in the event, which was organized by the charity fund “Demining of Ukraine”.
During the event, the participants were shown modern unmanned ground and aviation complexes for detecting explosive objects, as well as the latest methods of non-technical survey of territories.
In particular, they used an analytical approach that included analysis of satellite images, interviews with local residents, and research into combat operations that may have left behind minefields or ammunition.
During the practical part of the meeting, specialists from the “Demining of Ukraine” foundation and colleagues from the “Postup” foundation surveyed the designated area with the help of drones with magnetometers.
This technology makes it possible to detect magnetic anomalies that may indicate the presence of shells, mines or other explosive objects, without risking the lives of deminers.
Colonel Oleg Shuvarskyi emphasized the importance of compliance with national and international mine action standards.
He also reported that the number of certified demining operators in Ukraine is growing, and currently there are already 64 of them. Thanks to the conducted surveys, 32 thousand square kilometers of territory were recognized as safe for the civilian population.
Exchange of experience in the field of demining remains an important component for preserving the lives and safety of Ukrainian citizens.
