Of the batches totaling 54,000 120-mm mines, about which there was a suspicion of abnormal operation, about 24,000 mines are subject to return, which is less than 1% of the products produced this year. This was announced by the Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine Herman Smetanin.
The Minister reported that on November 20 of this year, one of the manufacturing plants received a claim for 120-mm mines from the Logistics Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in accordance with the established procedure.
“At the same time, due to the effective cooperation of the Ministry of Strategy and Industry and the Ministry of Defense, the working out of the mentioned shortcomings was already underway – the mines of the last batches were being re-checked. Since domestic defense and military enterprises constantly and efficiently cooperate with military units within the framework of the use of the supplied products, information about this was received in time,” the Ministry of Strategy and Industry said in a statement.
As early as November 8, the Ministry of Strategic and Industrial Production issued an order to conduct an inspection, involving officials of the Ministry of Strategic and Industrial Production, the Ministry of Defense, the manufacturing plant, the Central Research Institute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the Security Service of Ukraine.
The working group worked during November 11-15 and came to the conclusion that there is indeed an abnormal operation of several components of the product. Due to this, part of the shots turned out to be of inadequate quality.
In accordance with the Act of the commission’s work, in particular, the following measures are taken:
- a low-quality batch of 120-mm mines is being replaced;
- manufacturing plants strengthen product quality control at all stages of production, starting with the receipt of purchased components.
Today, the Ministry of Defense is withdrawing products from the specified batch in accordance with the established procedure, and the manufacturing plant is replacing them with high-quality samples.
“At the same time, all enterprises of the Ukrainian defense industry continue to work as usual: to manufacture and supply high-quality weapons and military equipment to the Defense Forces. The situation surrounding low-quality mines has also become an additional incentive for all manufacturers to be more careful about quality control of their products at all stages of production,” the statement reads.
As ArmiyaInform reported, on November 26, the Ministry of Defense noted that for the third week it is actively investigating the causes of the abnormal activation of 120 mm mines.
