Gerbera unmanned aerial vehicles, which Russia uses for strikes on the territory of Ukraine, are made of plywood and contain foreign-made components. This was reported in the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, he writes UNN.

Details

“The aggressor state of Russia assembles such multi-tasking UAVs at a factory in the city of Yelabuga. The Gerbera device can carry a warhead like a kamikaze and carry out radio-electronic reconnaissance, in particular, to identify air defense positions and record hits by other strike drones,” the GUR reported.

According to intelligence, this UAV imitates Shahed-136/Geran-2 and is widely used by Russia to overwhelm Ukrainian air defenses. “Due to the use of simple materials (plywood, styrofoam), the Gerbera is ten times cheaper than the Shahed/Geran. However, the structure of this drone contains a set of components from foreign manufacturers, which is already common for Russian weapons,” the GUR added.

According to them, during the study of the downed samples of these UAVs, experts discovered that the Russians manufacture “herbers” based on the Chinese prototype using foreign components imported from China. In particular, the UAV developer is the Chinese model aircraft manufacturer Skywalker Technology Co., Ltd., which also produces fuselages and organizes the delivery of kits to Russia. The supply, according to Ukrainian intelligence, takes place through third-party companies.

The anti-interference antenna (CRPA) “gerber” contains chips from Analog Devices and Texas Instruments (USA), NXP Semiconductors (Netherlands). The universal flight controller also contains components manufactured by Texas Instruments, Atmel (USA), STMicroelectronics, U-Blox (Switzerland), NXP Semiconductors (Netherlands), XLSEMI (China). For targeting by the pilot (according to the FPV-drone principle) of the barrage version of the UAV and conducting aerial reconnaissance, the “gerbera” is equipped with a Chinese camera with a three-axis suspension Topotek KHY10S90 and a Xingkai Tech Mesh Network XK-F358 modem. And the DLE60 engine is manufactured by the Chinese Mile Hao Xiang Technology Co., Ltd. In the summer of 2024, this company came under US sanctions for supplies to Russia.

Let’s add

the Russians are constantly trying to modify and modernize all the types of missiles and drones they have, which they use for attacks on Ukraine. Specialists of the Kyiv Research Institute of Forensic Examinations (KNDISE) comment UNN told what specific features are in question and what role western components play in changes to enemy weapons. The enemy uses not only Western components. According to Oleksandr Ruvin, director of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Examinations, about 50 manufacturers from China supply components for UAVs, which the enemy is using to attack Ukraine.

KNDISE also reported that during the attacks on the territory of Ukraine, which took place on October 26-29, the Russians used shock drones with a thermobaric warhead.

In addition, the KNDISE experts established that the Russian X-69 missiles, which the occupiers use to attack Ukraine, are made of several types of weapons and have foreign components.
