“On December 16, 2024, the Ternopil specialized prosecutor’s office in the field of defense began a pre-trial investigation regarding the officials of the 211 pontoon-bridge brigade of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the fact that a military official exceeded his authority or official powers (Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)” , – reported in the Office of the Prosecutor General on social networks.

The pre-trial investigation is entrusted to the investigators of the territorial department of the SBI, located in the city of Lviv.

As indicated in the SBI, the bureau is investigating proceedings related to illegal relations in the 211th brigade.

“It should be noted that the SBI did not receive any materials regarding this situation either from officials or from the brigade’s fighters,” the SBI reported.

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the criminal proceedings are investigating “possible illegal actions of brigade officers, which consisted in the use of physical violence against subordinates under martial law, extortion of funds and excess of disciplinary authority.” Materials collected during service inspections of the brigade by the Main Inspection of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, messages in the media and social networks, etc. are studied.

“In addition, the commander of the mentioned brigade was informed today of the suspicion of abuse of official position (Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine),” the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.

As indicated, it was established that in the fall of 2023, he involved four subordinates in the construction of his house in the Khmelnytsky region, instead of their service in war zones. The soldiers were officially included in the order of business trip to the Mykolaiv Oblast, where they allegedly performed their duties, but in reality they were not there. At the same time, they received salaries and combat payments in the total amount of almost one million hryvnias, the Office of the Prosecutor General noted.

“Law enforcement officers conducted authorized searches in the military unit, at the residence of the commander, military personnel, and at the construction site. They seized documentation and other physical evidence of illegal activity,” the prosecutor’s office said.
