“The Security Service and the State Security Service, with the assistance of the Minister of Defense and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, documented the crimes of 3 officials of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who did not provide adequate protection of Kharkiv Oblast during the enemy’s offensive in May 2024. According to the case materials, those involved are a brigadier general who held the position of commander operational-tactical group (OTU) “Kharkiv”, lieutenant general, who was the commander 125th separate brigade of Terodefense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the colonel who previously headed the 415th battalion of this unit,” the SBU reported.
“Employees of the SBU, in cooperation with the SBU, with the assistance of the Ministry of Defense and the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, detained ex-commanders: two generals and a colonel, due to whose negligence the enemy was able to seize part of the territory of Kharkiv region in May 2024,” the SBU also indicated.
As the investigation established, “officials did not prepare the defense of the border areas of Kharkiv Oblast and lost control of the battle during the repeated offensive of the Rashists on the regional center.”
Among other things, as indicated by the special service, during the preparation of defensive lines in the area of responsibility of military units and units of the OTU, the participants violated the requirements of combat statutes, and also did not use the entire arsenal of possible measures during the battle to repel and stop the attack of the aggressor.
“This led to the seizure of part of the territory of the eastern region of Ukraine, where fierce fighting is currently ongoing,” the SBU said.
Specialized examinations initiated by law enforcement officers have reportedly confirmed the facts of criminal activity of those involved.
“On the basis of the collected evidence, they have been detained and will be notified of suspicion in accordance with the crimes committed under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Part 4 of Article 425 (negligent attitude to military service, committed under martial law); Article 429 (organization of voluntary abandonment) battlefields)”, the message reads.
Currently, the issue of selecting a preventive measure is being resolved. Extras face up to 10 years in prison.
An investigation is ongoing to bring all the guilty parties to justice.
