“Regarding the information in the public space that a Russian missile crossed the national airspace this morning, we make the following clarifications: the air surveillance system of Romania, as part of the integrated NATO system that constantly monitors the air situation in the area, did not detect such a situation “, the Ministry of National Defense of Romania reported on December 25.
According to reports, “the Romanian military leadership was informed by the Ukrainians that at around 7:30 a.m. a missile of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, which would have consequences in the Chernivtsi region, Ukraine, was supposed to pass through the airspace of the Republic of Moldova and within about two minutes through the airspace the territory of Romania in the northern part, in the area of the city of Darabani”.
“From the monitoring data of Romania’s aerial surveillance systems and from the data provided by means of NATO countries, which supplement the monitoring in Romania’s area of responsibility, the crossing of Romania’s airspace was not confirmed,” the Ministry of Defense of Romania said.
Competent structures of the ministry, as noted, “will continue the investigation of this situation to clarify all the circumstances.”
“Also, the forces and means involved in the combat service of the air police – under the national command and under the command of NATO, remain on permanent duty for the protection of the national and allied airspace”, – the Romanian Ministry of Defense noted.
