“At least 183 civilians were killed and 903 were injured in Ukraine in October. 45% of the dead were over 60 years old. Among the victims, 9 children were killed and 49 were injured,” the report says.
The UN emphasized that the Russian Federation has intensified attacks using long-range unmanned aerial vehicles, which have carried out 1,900 strikes on Ukraine.
“In addition to human casualties and injuries, the almost daily frequency of these attacks, combined with the constant sounding of air raid sirens, caused a significant deterioration in the living conditions of the civilian population. In October, 80% of the casualties (deaths and injuries) among civilians were recorded near the front line, in particular, due to aerial bombardment, artillery shelling, strikes from multiple rocket systems and short-range unmanned aerial vehicles actions. The largest number of victims were in the Kherson, Kharkiv and Donetsk regions,” the UN added.
There were also at least six attacks on ships and seaport infrastructure. One blow was inflicted on a port in the territory occupied by the Russian Federation in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In general, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, 12,162 civilians have died and 26,919 have been injured.
Ombudsman Lubinets stated that “behind each of these figures is someone’s property, life and future, but Russia once again demonstrates its attitude to all laws, norms and rules of warfare, it violates all treaties and documents on which it previously signed. It understands only the language of strength that all democratic countries must show.”
