It is noted that the reason for the threats from the Russian Federation was the rhetoric of the Director General of the IAEA, Raphael Grossi, who stated that the experts will remain at the station “until the possible freezing of the war”.
Instead, the Kremlin emphasized that the presence of the mission at the ZNPP is possible only with their permission.
Energoatom emphasized that the IAEA mission at the ZNPP is the result of agreements between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the IAEA Director General Raphael Grossi, which provides for constant monitoring of Ukrainian nuclear facilities in order to prevent potential incidents.
Ukraine’s initiative to involve international experts is an important step towards increasing the safety level of Ukrainian nuclear power plants in wartime, Energoatom added.
Threats to terminate the work of the IAEA mission at the ZNPP confirm that the Kremlin has no intention of complying with any norms of international law. The seizure of the ZNPP, the placement of military personnel and equipment there, the shelling of critical infrastructure and the manipulation of energy security are a direct confirmation of Russia’s nuclear terrorism,
Energoatom added that maintaining the work of the IAEA at the ZNPP is a matter not only of the security of Ukraine, but also of the world. The international community must ensure continuous monitoring and hold Russia accountable.
We will remind
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the possible termination of the IAEA mission at the Zaporizhzhia NPP due to the statements of Rafael Grossi.
