Zelenskyy discussed strengthening cooperation with the head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry

“You were on our side from the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, you helped us. We highly appreciate the help that the Japanese government and people have provided to Ukraine. The amount of almost 12 billion dollars is the total support of Ukraine during this war,” Zelenskyi said.

Separately, the president thanked for the allocation of 3 billion dollars. within the framework of the G7 decision regarding a $50 billion loan, which will be repaid with the proceeds from frozen Russian assets.

The President noted the close relations between Ukraine and Japan, and also expressed hope that the dialogue will continue at the same high level with the new Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba.

“In light of what is happening with the intervention of the North Korean military in Russia’s war against Ukraine, it is important to discuss how to prevent an increase in escalation on the part of Russia, already together with North Korea,” he said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Takeshi Ivaya agreed to intensify the implementation of the bilateral security agreement, which was concluded on June 13 in Apulia.

Takeshi Iwaya noted that he came to Ukraine to testify to the unchanged position: Japan is and will be together with Ukraine. Separately, he emphasized that he supports the strengthening of bilateral relations between the countries for the sake of security.

We will remind that during this visit, Japan and Ukraine agreed to conduct a bilateral dialogue on security issues with the participation of the ministries of foreign affairs and defense against the background of the deployment of North Korean troops in Russia.

Andrii Sybiga said during a joint press conference that North Korea is helping Russia in the war against Ukraine, and in exchange Pyongyang wants to receive Russian technologies.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Takeshi Iwaya, visited Ukraine for talks with representatives of the authorities. The visit of the Japanese diplomat was not announced in advance.
