President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Ukraine is conducting substantive and detailed talks with the American side regarding monitoring of peace in the event of signing a peace agreement. We are talking about monitoring and deterrence mechanisms that should prevent new aggression from Russia. The US, according to the president, is ready to participate in this process. He announced this at a press conference after the “coalition of the determined” meeting.

According to Zelenskyi, the key topic was the monitoring system, which should prevent violations of agreements in the event of a peace agreement. The President emphasized that this is a fundamental issue for Ukraine, because previous experience has shown that without real control mechanisms, any agreements remain vulnerable. “We spoke very specifically today with the American team about monitoring so that there are no violations of the peace. America is ready to work on this. This is very important for us,” Zelenskyi said.

He emphasized that deterrence should be one of the key elements of future agreements. According to the president, it is about tools that will not allow Russia to take advantage of the pause to prepare new aggression. “One of the most important components is deterrence. This is a tool that will prevent new Russian aggression,” the head of state emphasized.

Zelenskyi also reported that Ukraine managed to make significant progress in working on documents together with the American negotiating team. He announced new meetings with US special representative Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, which should take place in the near future. The President expressed hope that these consultations will allow us to get closer to the final agreement of the documents and their subsequent signing.

Separately, Zelenskyi emphasized the importance of the role of the United States in the system of security guarantees for Ukraine. According to him, Kyiv is counting not just on political statements, but on clear and fixed commitments from Washington. “We appreciate the willingness of the United States to provide support to the forces that must prevent the recurrence of Russian aggression. The backstop from America is important for us,” the president noted.

He clarified that it is about guarantees that have legal force and will be based on formal decisions of the American state. “These should be guarantees based on legal obligations, in particular those approved by the US Congress,” Zelensky emphasized.

The President made it clear that for Ukraine the issue of security after the possible end of the war is no less important than the cessation of hostilities. That is why Kyiv insists on real control mechanisms, international participation and clearly defined responsibility for violations of agreements.

According to Zelenskyi, negotiations with the American side are ongoing, and Ukraine expects that in the near future they will give a concrete result that will become the basis for a long-term and real peace, and not another temporary pause in the war.
