The head of state congratulated his Swiss colleague on the start of the presidency and thanked Switzerland for consistent support of Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale invasion of Russia. Zelensky emphasized that it is important for Ukraine to maintain international unity and pressure on the aggressor.
During the conversation, the leaders discussed in detail the diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace. Particular attention was paid to the sanctions policy against Russia. The Ukrainian side noted Switzerland’s position and expressed hope for further decisive steps.
Zelensky also informed the President of Switzerland about the situation in Ukraine this winter. According to him, Russia continues systematic attacks on the energy infrastructure, trying to leave Ukrainian cities without electricity, heat and water. At the same time, repair crews and energy workers work around the clock to restore damaged objects. “Russian attacks on energy do not stop, but Ukrainian specialists are doing everything possible to ensure that people remain with light and heat,” the president noted.
The needs of the Ukrainian energy sector became a separate block of the meeting. Zelenskyi emphasized the importance of international assistance for the stable operation of the energy system and the protection of critical infrastructure. It was also about strengthening air defense, which remains key to the security of energy facilities.
The leaders discussed the possibility of Switzerland’s additional contribution to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine. Such assistance, according to the Ukrainian side, will allow a faster response to the consequences of attacks and support the basic needs of the population in war conditions.
