During today’s meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the Rammstein format, agreements were reached on additional support packages worth 2 billion dollars.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi told journalists in Italy about this, commenting on the results of the meeting, Ukrinform reports.
“I want to thank all partners, all ministers of defense – that’s 50 countries plus. We had a very good meeting today and a very good result. An additional $2 billion in support packages for Ukraine, plus, crucially, eight coalition capabilities. It is already on paper. 34 countries already support these strategic coalitions,” the President said.
According to him, all this certainly strengthens Ukraine.
“I am very glad that so many countries joined at once. They will be with us. The strategy for 2025+ was approved today. We understand that our army will be strengthened with all these weapons, all these packages,” Zelensky noted.
He also reported that during the meeting, the issue of whether the Rammstein format would be continued was not raised. “Because everyone understands that the next meeting is in February, everyone has already agreed on it. This platform, where so many countries meet, is important for us. It is important that he continues his work,” the head of state emphasized.
He added that the question is not in the name – the main thing is that important decisions are made in support of Ukraine.
Among the important results of Ramstein, Zelensky mentioned the guaranteed supply of additional air defense systems: “We have confirmation, we have support. Not all 19 systems (previously the President stated that exactly so many Patriot systems are not enough to completely close the sky from Russian missiles – ed.), I will say frankly, but there is a fairly serious number of systems that the partners have guaranteed. We will work to ensure that the systems arrive faster.”
On January 9, the 25th meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine took place at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany. The meeting was chaired by Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin. This is the last Rammstein meeting in which representatives of the Joe Biden administration participated, and Trump’s position on the continued participation of the United States in this format is currently unknown.
Allies within the framework of the Rammstein format have agreed on plans to support Ukraine. It is about the plans for the development of the defense capability of our country until 2027.
