““If it’s just quick, then it’s a loss for Ukraine. Maybe we don’t know something, we don’t see it, we need a little more time””, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
Speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Budapest, Zelensky said he believes Trump does want a quick solution to end the war, but that doesn’t mean it will necessarily happen.
“I want to – it doesn’t mean that it will work out that way, and I’m here without objections… We want a fair end to the war. I am sure that a quick end to the war means losses. And I think that if very soon, I don’t know this idea, we haven’t talked about it with President Trump, I think that he will prepare with his team for certain proposals or views,” said Zelensky.
“If it’s just quick, then it’s a loss for Ukraine. Maybe we don’t know something, we don’t see it, we need a little more time,” the head of state added.
After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Trump made contradictory statements, on the one hand, claiming that if he were president, Russia would not have dared to attack Ukraine, on the other hand, criticizing the administration of Joe Biden and the Democrats for allocating funds to Ukraine.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that after being elected president, he will be able to stop the war in Ukraine “within 24 hours.” Both in Moscow and Kyiv, these words were commented on with skepticism. The Washington Post newspaper previously wrote about the details of Trump’s alleged peace plan: it is claimed that he wants to put pressure on both Moscow and Kyiv in order to force them to make peace at the price of Ukraine giving up part of its territories, and Russia giving up other of its demands. Trump has not officially confirmed that this is the plan.
