According to him, there are more than a hundred brigades that need staffing every day, this should be solved first”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, answering questions about lowering the mobilization age, reminded that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have about a hundred brigades that need additional staffing.

“We heard a lot of signals about the mobilization age of our military. From representatives of the former administration (US president – ed.), some NATO countries. I will not give an exact number, but we have more than a hundred brigades, and each of them needs staffing, equipment – armored, artillery every day,” Zelenskyy said before the start of the meeting with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in Kyiv.

According to him, the first priority should be the staffing of the existing brigades.

“We have to equip our brigades with appropriate equipment. Our partners have all these requests. I think this is the most important thing – a person should be protected. Have appropriate weapons and knowledge. With this, our partners should first of all saturate the Ukrainian army,” Zelenskyi said.

Mike Waltz, previously nominated by Donald Trump for the position of presidential adviser on national security, noted that Ukraine needs to lower the mobilization age to 18 due to problems with human resources. According to him, the new administration of the US president will ask to lower the conscription age from 25 to 18 years.

At the same time, in December of last year, the representative of the US State Department, Matthew Miller, said that if Ukraine lowers the mobilization age to 18, then all recruits will be provided with full equipment.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi, commenting on Miller’s statement, emphasized on December 10 that Ukraine should not compensate for the lack of equipment and training with young soldiers, so it is necessary to focus on providing the existing brigades. The head of state noted that “the priority should be the supply of missiles and the reduction of Russia’s military potential, not the reduction of the conscription age in Ukraine.”

The legislation of Ukraine provides for the mobilization of conscripts aged 25 to 60.
