“They discussed defense cooperation between Ukraine and Great Britain – the development and expansion of the technological capabilities of the Armed Forces. Particular attention is paid to Ukraine’s military needs and further assistance from partners,” said the message published in Zelenskyi’s telegram.
The President thanked the British people and government for their continued support.
The released video shows that the meeting was attended by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces General Oleksandr Syrskyi and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Anatoliy Bargylevych.
The meeting comes after Western allies this week approved Ukraine’s use of long-range missiles to strike deep into Russia, following months of requests from Kyiv, according to media reports.
Bloomberg reported on November 20, citing a Western official familiar with the matter, that the Armed Forces of Ukraine used British cruise missiles for the first time against military facilities on the territory of Russia.
According to the publication’s interlocutor, Great Britain approved the use of Storm Shadow missiles in response to Russia’s deployment of North Korean troops in the war against Ukraine. At the same time, the British government did not officially announce such a move.
Great Britain was the first country with which Ukraine signed a bilateral security agreement.
In total, Ukraine has already signed up to 30 such security agreements: with Great Britain, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Japan, the USA, the EU, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Luxembourg, Romania, the Czech Republic and Slovenia.
The agreements are signed within the framework of the declaration of support for Ukraine, adopted in Vilnius in July 2023 by the countries of the “Group of Seven”.
