Ukraine’s invitation to NATO will be of decisive importance and will become one of the main arguments for ending the war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said during the meeting of the European Council on Thursday, October 17, in Brussels.
According to him, the relevant decision will show “the inevitability of European integration of Ukraine and the indisputable path of democracy”.
“The invitation will strengthen our diplomatic position and become one of the main arguments in favor of ending the war,” Zelenskyy said.
NATO has “taken into account” the victory plan, but there are many aspects to discuss – Rutte
He added that for decades, Russia used the geopolitical uncertainty due to the fact that Ukraine was not a member of NATO.
Ukraine’s invitation to NATO is the first point of Zelenskyi’s victory plan, which he presented in the Verkhovna Rada on October 16. In general, the document consists of five points and three secret annexes and includes:
- invitation to NATO;
- strengthening of defense;
- containment of the Russian Federation;
- strategic economic potential;
- post-war point — the replacement of individual military contingents of the US Army in Europe by Ukrainian units.
According to the president, if the plan is implemented, the war in Ukraine can be ended by the end of 2025.
On October 17, the President of Ukraine is visiting Brussels, where he plans to present a victory plan to European leaders and discuss the transfer of $35 billion to Ukraine from frozen Russian assets within the framework of the G7 initiative.
