“We discussed the need to strengthen Ukrainian air defense, continue work to ensure that our country receives an invitation to NATO as soon as possible, and the importance of timely implementation of all the agreements of the Washington Summit of the Alliance,” Zelenskyy wrote in a telegram.
He added that during the meeting with the Secretary General of NATO, he thanked him for supporting Ukraine during his tenure, “for efforts to unite the world to help Ukraine, to strengthen our army.”
Stoltenberg, for his part, called the meeting important on the X social network and added: “We agree that the future of Ukraine lies in NATO. We will continue to work together to bring that day closer and help Ukraine win its fight for freedom.”
Jens Stoltenberg will step down on October 1 after nearly ten years as NATO Secretary General.
He will hand over powers to former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
