President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the energy crisis provoked by Russia with his Moldovan counterpart Maya Sandu. Ukraine offers its help.

Zelenskyi said this in his evening address on January 8.

“Today I had several international conversations. Moldova – Maya Sandu. Of course, the most important thing is to help Moldova go through a difficult period of energy challenges, to prevent Moscow from igniting social tension. The entire current energy situation in Moldova, and in particular on the left bank of the Dniester, is Russia’s attempt to manipulate energy resources against the authorities in Moldova. We are ready to help Moldova, in particular, with coal. It is very important to preserve stability and give all people in Moldova the conditions to live peacefully and work for their country, to overcome poverty and for our joint movement into the European Union,” the president said.

It will be recalled that after the stoppage of Russian gas supplies to Transnistria on January 1, a serious energy crisis began in the region. In addition to the fact that a large part of the population lost gas, widespread power outages began, and the entire industrial sector stopped there from January 1.

Back in December, before the termination of the supply of Russian gas, the authorities of Moldova offered to buy European gas for Transnistria, and at their own expense. Tiraspol did not even respond to this proposal.

The Prime Minister of Moldova believes that the energy crisis was specially provoked by Russia in order to freeze the population, and then blame the Moldovan authorities and set voters to vote for pro-Russian political forces.
