According to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, membership in NATO remains the best security guarantee for Ukraine, but Ukraine does not expect an invitation from anyone. He stated this during a briefing in Brussels on Wednesday, December 18, the RadioNV columnist reports.

“We have sanctions, financial, and weapons packages guarantees. George Maloney today (Prime Minister of Italy – ed.) said about the next support package for Ukraine. All this is not enough to guarantee that Putin will not come again. The best thing is a strong army, the largest in Europe. We have no right to limit the strength of our army. But strong guarantees are the Alliance. Strong economy. While the war is going on, we have a big deficit in the budget, UAH 40-42 billion,” the president commented.

To a clarifying question from Radio NV about from whom Kyiv expects an invitation, if those around the future US President Donald Trump and the current administration of the White House are opposed to inviting Ukraine to the Alliance now, the president answered that Ukraine is fighting for this right.

“We do not expect from anyone, we fight for this right. Each such decision is a very complex part of the history of our country. Therefore, we cannot expect from anyone, we can do our best to make it work for us,” Zelensky clarified.

Earlier, the President of Ukraine stated that he was going to discuss with the current US President Joe Biden the issue of inviting Ukraine to NATO. Zelensky also tasked the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sibiza, to receive an invitation to NATO at the meeting of foreign ministers of the NATO countries, which took place in early December in Brussels, and to discuss it with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
