On Monday, September 23, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi met with Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida in New York. Politicians discussed the energy situation in Ukraine and agreed on new energy aid from Tokyo.
Details of the negotiations that took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly were reported on the website of the President’s Office. In addition, Zelenskyi and Kishida discussed new sanctions against Russia for its illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi thanked Japan for its financial and humanitarian aid in the amount of more than 12 billion euros, as well as for supporting sanctions against the Russian Federation. The head of state emphasized that it is important to continue the work on blocking all loopholes that Russia uses to circumvent sanctions,” the message said.
The new package of energy aid from Japan, as announced by the prime minister, will include transformers, generators and other equipment.
Cooperation with partners in the G7 and the EU to create a practical mechanism that would make it possible to obtain $50 billion from frozen Russian assets was also among the topics of discussion, the OP noted.
