As you know, from January 1, 2025, Poland began the six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union, taking over this role from Hungary.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, stated that Warsaw expects to use the period of the Polish presidency to strengthen its position as one of the five most important EU countries.

Among the goals, he named the use of EU support tools for the development of defense infrastructure, such as the “Eastern Shield”, the full use of frozen Russian assets.

He also announced that Poland will ensure the “pace and quality” of EU expansion to the east and south, both in the part of Ukraine and in the part of Moldova and the Western Balkans.

Ukraine has significant expectations from the presidency of Poland and, after it, Denmark. Zelensky expressed hope that the presidencies of Poland and Denmark in 2025 should become historic for Ukraine.
