The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained the words of the Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk about the readiness of Ukraine to continue fighting with Russia for another 2-3 years.

According to him, this statement did not refer to forecasts regarding the duration of the war, but to stable financial support of Ukraine from partners.

“I told them (European partners – ed.) that we will not fight for decades, but you must show that you will be able to sustainably financially support Ukraine for some time. And that’s why they have such a program in mind – 2-3 years. Let’s emphasize that for 2-3 years we will stably help Ukraine with finances,” Zelensky explained during a conversation with journalists on October 27.

He noted that the war may end earlier, but money is still needed – for reconstruction.

“I believe that when you talk about some years of support for Ukraine, there are “Russian” assets. That is, we will spend them on weapons or we will spend them on restoration. If the war ends in a month, we will spend this money on reconstruction. If it ends not in a month, but in some time, then we will spend them on weapons,” said the President of Ukraine.

Zelensky believes that for Putin, the most frightening thing about Russian assets is that Europe has given a signal: there is no point in continuing the war of exhaustion for Ukraine, because there will be no financial exhaustion.

“It is important to give a clear signal: we will finance Ukraine, and if Putin does not stop, we will continue our support. This shows Russia that there is no point in war, because we will not surrender, and our partners will not surrender,” he added.

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said in an interview with the Sunday Times that Ukraine is ready to fight for another two or three years, although President Zelensky hopes that the war will not drag on for decades.

European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen said last week that Europe is increasing cooperation in the defense industry and advancing work on a reparations loan, options for which will be presented soon.

European Union leaders meeting in Brussels on October 23 failed to reach an agreement on using frozen Russian state assets to fund Ukraine after Belgium, where most of the money is held, raised legal and technical concerns about the proposal.

However, with the participation of Zelenskyi, the EU leaders undertook to “ensure coverage of Ukraine’s financial needs for the next two years,” European Council President Antonio Kosta said after the summit.
