Sofia Lyskun recently became a citizen of Russia / screenshotThe President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, deprived the European diving champion Sofya Lyskun, who recently changed her Ukrainian citizenship to Russian, of her presidential scholarship. Diving coach Oleksandra Sendzyuk was also deprived of her scholarship.
This is stated in the Decree of the Head of State No. 980/2025 dated December 24.
“Deprive Lyskun Sofiya Valeriivna and Sendzyuk Oleksandra Serhiivna of the scholarships of the President of Ukraine, appointed by the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated April 8, 2025 No. 221/2025,” the decree reads.
These scholarships were intended for outstanding, young and promising Ukrainian athletes from Olympic sports and their coaches.

Lyskun, a 23-year-old athlete, comes from temporarily occupied Luhansk. According to her, she decided to get a Russian passport allegedly because of “problems with trainers”. She stated that professional standards were allegedly ignored in Ukraine and she was criticized for her connections with the first coach who moved to Moscow, as well as communication with Russian athletes.
