Ukraine received another, the sixth IRIS-T SLM air defense system from the German authorities.
The corresponding statement of the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was confirmed by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi in an evening video address to Ukrainians.
The head of the Ukrainian state, commenting on the missile attack of the aggressor country Russia on Kyiv in the morning of December 20, thanked the Western partners “who are responding to this and other Russian attacks by being ready to provide more air defense systems, more weapons that can protect against terrorists.”
“We have now returned from Brussels with new agreements on air defense. Also, Germany has already transferred an additional IRIS-T system. Thank you,” said President Zelensky.
Sending the IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine by Germany — what is known
On December 2, Scholz during his own during his visit to Kyiv said that in December, Ukraine will receive from Germany the sixth IRIS-T air defense system, launchers for Patriot and Gepard self-propelled guns.
The German chancellor also noted that the country has already provided Ukraine with five complete IRIS-T systems, three Patriot systems and more than 50 Gepard anti-aircraft systems.
Besides, Scholz said that in 2025, Germany will supply Ukraine with air defense systems, howitzers, combat and reconnaissance drones, as well as Sea King helicopters.
On December 20, the German chancellor at the national briefing on the results of the meeting of the European Council in Brussels stated that the official Berlin has already sent the sixth air defense system to the official Kyiv IRIS-T.
