“Zelensky began an official visit to Spain, during which meetings are planned with the king, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and representatives of the defense industry”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
This is already the third visit to Spain since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022.
The visit reportedly includes meetings with the king, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and representatives of the Spanish defense industry.
Government sources of the TV channel said that the visit will confirm Spain’s steadfast commitment to Ukraine. During the meeting between Sanchez and Zelensky at the Moncloa Palace, the Prime Minister of Spain will confirm his readiness to continue supporting Ukraine as long as necessary.
In May 2024, Ukraine and Spain concluded a security agreement. Madrid has pledged €1 billion to Kyiv in 2024, with an option to increase to €5 billion by 2027, to help the country improve its response to the Russian invasion.
To that end, Spain’s prime minister also announced last month that Spain was joining NATO’s program to buy US weapons for Ukraine, known as the Priority Ukraine Requirement List (PURL). Sanchez and Zelensky are expected to discuss the issue while presiding over the signing of bilateral agreements, and then hold a joint press conference.
In announcing his visit to Spain, Zelenskyi said that Kyiv is working so that the meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez “brings agreements that will give us more strength.”
