“Zelenskyi said that “all subjects connected with Russia and its structures deserve to be blocked””, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
“Today I signed new sanctions decisions. We are synchronizing our steps with Great Britain and extending the sanctions that have expired. First: we continue sanctions against the former oligarch Dmytro Firtash and, within the limits of synchronization, apply sanctions against his close circle and the company controlled by him. All entities connected to Russia and its structures deserve to be blocked,” he wrote in a telegram.
According to him, Ukraine also continues sanctions against one of Viktor Medvedchuk’s closest associates, namely against Taras Kozak and eight related companies.
“Long before the start of full-scale Russian aggression, these individuals chose Russia for themselves, and therefore, war. We will continue to oppose every such entity,” Zelenskyy added.
According to the published decree, sanctions are also applied to the wife of Firtash – Lada, Denys Horbunenko.
In November 2024, Great Britain introduced sanctions against eight natural persons – citizens of different countries, who are accused of large-scale international corruption. Among them were Ukrainian businessman Dmytro Firtash and his wife Lada Firtash, Denys Gorbunenko, who, according to the British side, is “a British financial “fixer” who contributed to Dmytro Firtash’s corruption.”
In 2014, the American prosecutor’s office accused Dmytro Firtash of bribery. Since then, the oligarch has resisted US attempts to extradite him from Austria, where he lives most of the time.
The US accuses Firtash and five other people of conspiring between 2006 and 2010 to pay at least $18.5 million in bribes to Indian officials to buy a titanium mine in India. The Ukrainian tycoon allegedly intended to sell part of the products to the American aerospace giant Boeing.
He denies any wrongdoing, saying the charges against him are politically motivated.
He was indicted in June 2013 and then arrested in Vienna at the request of the US in March 2014. Firtash was later released on bail of 125 million euros ($136 million).
In December 2025, an Austrian court rejected Firtash’s extradition to the United States.
Taras Kozak is an associate of Medvedchuk and the owner of the TV channels “112 Ukraine”, NewsOne and Zik, which were closed in February 2021 by the decision of the National Security Council. Sanctions have been introduced against him in Ukraine. He left Ukraine in 2021.
Firtash, his wife Lada, Denys Gorbunenko and Taras Kozak did not publicly comment on the Ukrainian sanctions against them.
