The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that the current days are one of the most active in terms of diplomacy, as key decisions regarding the end of the war can be made before the New Year.
While in the United States before the meeting with Donald Trump, the head of state emphasized that the success of these efforts depends on the readiness of partners to increase pressure on Russia and provide Ukraine with the necessary defense tools, in particular missiles for air defense systems.
According to the president, in the last week alone, the Russian Federation launched more than 2,100 attack drones, 800 guided aerial bombs and 94 missiles on Ukrainian cities, which confirms the enemy’s intentions to continue energy terror. Zelensky emphasized that finalizing the formats of steps to end the war and obtaining reliable security guarantees is the main goal of his current meetings with American officials.
The main focus of the diplomatic marathon is on the negotiations at the Mar-a-Lago residence, where Zelensky will present Donald Trump with a finalized 20-point peace plan. The Ukrainian leader noted that this document is 90% ready, but territorial issues and legal obligations regarding security still require final agreement. Zelenskyi also suggested the possibility of submitting the final agreement to a national referendum if its terms require complex compromises, but stressed the need for a 60-day ceasefire to hold such a vote. At the same time, the American side made it clear through Trump that the final approval of any plan rests with Washington, which makes today’s meeting decisive for the further development of events.
In parallel with the international activity, around-the-clock work of energy workers and rescuers continues inside the country to eliminate the consequences of the recent Russian attacks on critical infrastructure. The President assured that despite the constant threats, everything possible is being done to stabilize the energy supply and ensure the life of cities during the festive period. He called on the international community not only to monitor Russia’s aggression, but also to promptly respond to signals from Moscow about preparations for a protracted war in 2026. According to the Ukrainian leadership, it is the determination of the allies in the next few days that can be a turning point that will allow us to enter the new year with a clear plan to restore peace.
