Zelensky and the Prime Minister of Bulgaria agreed on assistance to the energy system and discussed defense cooperation

On Thursday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi reported on a telephone conversation with Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, during which the strengthening of energy cooperation was discussed.

Details: According to the head of state, he agreed with the Bulgarian prime minister on “steps that will help energy security in our region.”

The parties also talked about defense cooperation, he wrote.

Zelensky’s direct speech: “The European Union’s SAFE instrument provides many opportunities for this, and I offered the Prime Minister joint production projects, including those related to increasing the level of security in the Black Sea. Bulgaria is interested in cooperation with Ukraine. It was agreed that our teams will work out all the details.”

What happened before:

• Last week, the Bulgarian parliament voted to limit the export of fuel to EU countries after the introduction of US sanctions against the Russian company Lukoil.
• Before that, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Bulgaria accused Russian agents of cooperation with migrant smugglers.
