Ambassador of Ukraine to Great Britain and former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhnyi is preparing to leave his diplomatic post in London at the beginning of January.
It was reported Radio NV four sources in political and diplomatic circles.
According to interlocutors close to the President’s Office, Zaluzhny voiced his desire to resign to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, when he was in Kyiv a few weeks ago.
“They and the president discussed various positions for Zaluzhny, from the prime minister to the head of the President’s Office, but he did not show interest at that time,” the publication’s sources note.
According to other sources, for some time Zaluzhny even thought about the position of ambassador to the United States or head of the Armed Forces, but at the moment there are no decisions on this. There is currently no talk of changing the ambassador to the United States, the interlocutors say.
“Probably, Zaluzhny wants to return to Kyiv, he can announce it as early as January 4-5 next year, if nothing affects his decision,” says one of the sources.
The publication contacted the press service of the ambassador of Ukraine in Great Britain, but has not yet received a response.
Valery Zaluzhnyi was dismissed from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces on February 8, 2024. On May 9, 2024, he was appointed to the post of Ambassador of Ukraine to Great Britain.
The former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and now the ambassador to Great Britain Valery Zaluzhny noted that Russia’s political goal is the complete destruction of Ukraine as an independent state, and that is why you should not trust any peace initiatives from the Kremlin.
