This deal will be a turning point for the entertainment industry.
YouTube will broadcast “Oscar” from 2029 / UNIAN collage, photo REUTERS, ua.depositphotos.comVideo hosting YouTube will broadcast the Oscar award ceremony starting from 2029 until 2033. This was announced by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The Academy entered into a hosting agreement, under which the platform received exclusive worldwide rights to show the Oscar ceremony, red carpet broadcasts, behind-the-scenes materials and the Governor’s Ball.
It says the broadcast will be available for free worldwide on YouTube, as well as to YouTube TV subscribers in the US.
According to CNN, the Academy’s agreement with YouTube will be a turning point for the entertainment industry, as the broadcast will move from traditional television to global streaming.
The parties to the agreement expect that the change of platform will erase borders and make “Oscar” truly accessible to an international audience.
As you know, for the past 50 years, the Oscars ceremony has been broadcast by the ABC television network, which is owned by The Walt Disney Company. As a result, the 100th Academy Awards in 2028 will be the last to be shown under the Disney deal.
“We look forward to the next three broadcasts, including the show’s centennial celebration in 2028, and wish the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences continued success,” ABC said.
We will remind, as UNIAN wrote, Ukrainian films were included in the shortlist for the 2026 Oscar.
