Dates of winter holidays: recommendation of the Ministry of Education
The current academic year in Ukraine lasts from September 2, 2024 to June 30, 2025. Within this period, educational institutions can independently set the vacation schedule for students.
The Ministry of Education and Science (MES) allowed the pedagogical councils of schools to adjust the educational process depending on the security situation in the conditions of war and possible blackouts of electricity and heating.
At the same time, the MES recommended a two-week winter vacation schedule: from December 30, 2024 to January 10, 2025.
When will schoolchildren rest in the regions
IN Kyiv schoolchildren must go on vacation from December 23, 2024 for three weeks – until January 13, 2025. Deputy Chairman of the KMDA Valentyn Mondryivskyi emphasized that the dates may change according to the decisions of a particular school, because each institution has the right to independently set the exact dates of vacations.
In addition, additional vacations are provided for students of the first grades of the capital’s schools – from February 17 to 22, 2025.
IN Dnipro the winter vacation will last two weeks: from December 25, 2024 to January 7, 2025. At the same time, the city’s humanitarian policy department notes that the schedule may differ for individual schools.
IN Odessa winter vacation for students will roughly continue in accordance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Culture. On the websites of the city’s schools, the following vacation schedule is indicated: December 30, 2024 – January 10, 2025.
IN Kharkiv Also, the winter vacation will be two weeks including weekends: from Saturday, December 28, 2024 to Monday, January 13, 2025.
Schedule of winter holidays in schools Lviv varies In a number of educational institutions, children will rest from December 23 to January 12, and on the websites of other schools, the dates are December 23 to January 17, or December 21 to January 7.
IN Khmelnytskyi children will rest either from December 23 to January 5, or from December 30 to January 10. Schedules are set by each school separately.
Ivano-Frankivsk schoolchildren will be on vacation for more than two weeks. They will begin on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, and will run until and including January 12, 2025.
IN Chernivtsi schoolchildren will have days off from December 30 to January 12. At the same time, a number of schools are planning vacations from December 23 to January 5.
Whose winter vacation was extended?
IN Cherkassy vacations are scheduled from December 14, 2024 to January 13, 2025. As Deputy Mayor Anastasia Chubina noted even before the start of the school year, this schedule will be in effect if the energy supply situation is stable. However, the second semester after the vacation may become a six-day semester.
Schoolchildren Kropyvnytskyi will also receive a month of winter vacation, but for the sake of a long vacation, they had to “sacrifice” the autumn vacation – only 3 of the 37 schools in the city had it. The winter vacation in Kropyvnytskyi will last from December 16 to January 13, 2025.

It will be recalled that the Ministry of Education allowed schools to schedule holidays at their discretion. Principals of Ukrainian schools can determine the structure and duration of the academic year themselves, the main thing is that there should be at least 30 calendar days of vacation.
