Artificial intelligence (si) – It is not only a modern trend, but also technology that has deep roots. The first concepts of creating machines capable of thinking appeared in the middle of the twentieth century. For the first time, the concept of “artificial intelligence” was officially used in 1956 at a Dartmouth conference. Since then, AI technologies have evolved from simple expert systems to complex deep neural networks.
In this column, we will touch on the history of the CI and the contribution of Ukrainians to its emergence, on the example of students of “Lviv Polytechnic” justify the importance of AI in teaching young people and try to predict the development of AI in Ukraine together.
Si with a Ukrainian accent Ukrainians have made a significant contribution to the development of artificial intelligence. Academician Viktor Glushkov, a pioneer in the field of cybernetics, in the 1960s developed concepts of automated control systems. Modern Ukrainian developers also play an important role in creating AI algorithms. For example, many Ukrainian specialists work in global IT companies, such as Google, Meta and Openai, or establish their own startups in the field of AI. An example of such a startup is the world -famous Grammarly.
It is also known about the work of Lviv scientists in the development of programming and, in particular, artificial intelligence. Yes, Kateryna Yushchenko is a well -known cybernetics, who started her scientific path in the Lviv probability theory department, created a formal language of targeted programming. The world’s first image processing programs were also written in the address language of programming (late 50’s of the twentieth century).
Students “Lviv Polytechnic” – Generations AII headed the department of artificial intelligence systems six and a half years. One of the most significant achievements at that time was the creation of unique educational programs developed together with an IT cluster, which provided students with deep knowledge of machine learning and thorough processing of natural language and other areas of AI. The department first in Lviv began to introduce disciplines that cover not only the technical component, but also the ethical aspects of the use of AI, forming a responsible attitude to the development of these technologies. In addition, dual education was also first introduced at the department. Last year, the Master’s Program of the Department received a certificate of accreditation from the European agency determining the quality of education.
The department is a platform for integration of research and practical application. The scientific work of the team includes the development of algorithms for analyzing large data, optimization of business processes, medical diagnostic systems and more. These studies have been implemented in a number of international and domestic projects, including for the Lviv community. The program of digitalization of the Lviv State Archives, the projects “lost relics”, “kindergartens of Lviv region”, “Book Krai” – all this is developed by teachers and students of the department of systems of artificial intelligence.
We actively cooperate with international partners, attracting resources to create modern laboratories and participate in joint research projects. In particular, the department became a participant in the European Union initiatives aimed at developing innovative decisions in the field of AI, which made it possible to integrate Ukrainian science into the world ecosystem.
Particular pride is the graduates of the department who work in leading technological companies, such as Google, Microsoft, Meta, or create their own startups that change the industry. Thanks to this, Lviv has become a center of innovations where technologies that can potentially change the world are developing.
The modern generation student AI is significantly different from previous generations due to the deep integration of technologies into learning and everyday life. Students now have instant access to huge data, educational resources and training platforms. They are used to looking for answers in several clicks.
The AI generation is actively using technologies in education. This makes it possible to study anytime and anywhere. Due to the constant information noise and the influence of social networks, students are often a shorter focus of attention. Therefore, traditional lectures are inferior to interactive formats such as micro -studies, gamification or interactive seminars. Thanks to technologies, students are more prone to the choice of trajectory of learning, combining various formats: university training, online courses, internships or work on projects.
When the Ukrainians become a generation of the AI In order to become a generation of AI, some efforts need to be made. Yes, public policy should be aimed at creating favorable conditions for the development of artificial intelligence. Ukraine should clearly define its priorities: from increasing the financing of research to stimulating startups in high technology. We need to build research centers, equipped with state -of -the -art equipment, and introduce grant programs that will motivate young scientists to stay at home and work for the benefit of the country.
Lviv is now known as the Center for Ukrainian IT. But is the city ready to become the capital of AI? I believe that yes! To do this, you need to create a technological hub that unites business, university and power. It should be a space where students work side by side with leading developers, implementing the boldest projects. In addition, Lviv can become a platform for international conferences, forums and hackathons. Such measures not only draw attention to the city, but also attract investments and world experience.
And, of course, do not forget about education for the community. Conducting open lectures, workshops and training programs for young people and adults will help to create an environment where technologies will become part of everyday life.
Our university is already among the leaders in the training of high technology professionals. But we can do even more. The creation of modern educational programs that combine artificial intelligence with medicine, architecture, transport or energy will allow graduates of Lviv Polytechnic to become indispensable in any field.
You also need to create cooperation platforms where business, science and students will work together. This will not only open new horizons, but also show that the university can be a place where breakthrough ideas are born.
Where do artificial intelligence use?Apparently, you have noticed that AI gradually changes our daily lives. And this applies, of course, not only education, but also many other fields:
- Health care: analysis of medical images, prediction of epidemics, personalized treatment.
- Finances: markets forecasting, fraud.
- Transport: autonomous cars, optimization of routes.
- Entertainment: Streaming Services that they recommend B content, photo filters on social networks.
- Agriculture: soil analysis, crop forecast.
- Military industry and post -war recovery: Systems of autographing and recognition of target, humanitarian mine.
Generative AI is already used in a number of IT companies in Lviv. Yes, the company SoftServe offers business automation solutions. AI algorithms help to optimize the work of urban transport, analyzing data on the workload of routes from surveillance cameras. AI elements are used in bionic prostheses, which improves the quality of life of patients, providing more natural movements and functionality. As mentioned above, Lviv Polytechnic students developed a SI system for the State Archives of Lviv Oblast. This program helps to detect and correct mistakes in documents, which greatly simplifies the work of archivists.
Is artificial intelligence a threat? One of the most common questions: Will the HI Human Professions be replaced? Indeed, automation releases some jobs, especially in production, logistics and services. For example, automated cash desks have already reduced the number of cashiers, and autonomous cars can change the profession of driver in the future.
However, the AI also creates new professions such as:
- Data analysts – Specialists who find valuable information in large amounts of data.
- Algorithms developers – Experts who create new models and optimize their work.
- Ethics Specialists in AI – Professionals involved in transparency, ethical use and bias of algorithms.
Another threat is the potential intensification of economic inequality, as countries and companies with access to AI technologies are of competitive advantages. At the same time adaptation to new conditions – This is a key way to save and create jobs. It is important for governments, educational institutions and business to invest in retraining employees so that they can work in an automation world.
Prospects of UkraineIn my opinion, Ukraine, including Lviv region, has great potential in the global AI market thanks to talented developers, a strong mathematical school and the growth of the IT industry. In addition, the country has extensive experience in participating in international projects, which contributes to the development of technology and integration into global ecosystems.
Investing in AI can become a country of economic growth of the country, create new jobs and significantly expand the range of innovative services. Ukraine has the potential not only to become a technology consumer, but also to export ready -made solutions that can be used in areas such as military affairs, agriculture, medicine, logistics and financial sector.
Also, a promising area is cooperation with international partners to create joint research centers and programs for sharing experience in artificial intelligence. This will allow Ukrainian developers to be in the forefront of technological achievements and to ensure the competitiveness of the country on the world stage.
I am convinced that artificial intelligence – It is a tool that is able to change the future and answer all our “what?”. I believe that Ukraine has every chance to become one of the leaders of the modern technological revolution.
