For many years, Yermak was considered one of the most influential figures in power, playing the role of informal head of foreign policy, military strategy and peace negotiations.
At the same time, his style of work and concentration of power caused complaints both among political opponents and among Western allies. The level of trust in him among citizens was low — about 17.5%, according to the Razumkov Center.
The resignation is the reaction of the President of Ukraine to unbearable political pressure. According to Yulia Mendel, Zelensky’s former press secretary, it was a matter of survival in which the president chose to preserve his own political resource.
