“I don’t think European troops in Greenland affect the president’s decision-making process or his goal of acquiring Greenland,” Levitt replied.

She also said that the meeting between US, Danish and Greenlandic officials on Wednesday was “productive” and that Washington plans to continue the dialogue on Greenland in the future.

“It was a good meeting, and at it the parties agreed to create a working group of people who will continue the technical negotiations on the acquisition of Greenland. As I was informed, these negotiations will take place every two to three weeks, so the administration intends to continue the dialogue with the Danish side and the distinguished delegation from Greenland,” said the spokeswoman of the White House.

Levitt reiterated that control over Greenland is in “US national security interests.”

This week, a number of European countries announced that they were sending their troops to Greenland. This happened against the background of the statements of the US president that the defense of Greenland is “two sleds of dogs”.

At the time, Greenland’s government said it would step up efforts to secure the Arctic territory under NATO auspices, and again rejected US President Donald Trump’s ambitions to seize the island.
