On August 19, Orthodox believers commemorate the Holy Martyr Andrew Stratilat and 2,593 soldiers who died for Christ, as well as the memory of the martyrs Timothy, Agapia and the martyrs of the faeces.

The national calendar is known as the “Flowing Beet” – the time of starting root crops.

Andriy Stratilat is a Roman commander of the III century under the reign of Emperor Maximian. According to legend, in the war with the Persians, he urged the pagan warriors to pray Christ, after which the Romans won.

Subsequently, the emperor ordered to torture Andrew and his warriors for faith, and then secretly execute. On the way to Tars, they received baptism and died in battle – at the site of their death allegedly scored a healing source.
