Polari showed a baby seal / screenshotUkrainian scientists have managed to keep up with how the female wedding wedge feeds her baby – this is one of the two fluffy crumbs that were born near the Ukrainian Antarctic Station “Academician Vernadsky” this week.
In a video published by researchers, you can see a big female who feeds her little “girl”. At the same time to hear a cute conversation between mom and baby: both animals make interesting sounds in which, despite the incomprehensibility for people, literally “read” love and tenderness.
According to the National Antarctic Scientific Center, the video was shot in the first days after the birth of the seal.
According to scientists, in the first days, babies of this type of seal usually weigh 25-30 kg. They grow very quickly on nutritious breast milk, whose fat is 54%. By the end of feeding, which lasts about 3 months, the weight of children can reach 90 kg, and adult seals weigh 400 kg.
Replenishment in the seal familyWe will remind, in Antarctica, near the Ukrainian Polar Station “Academic Vernadsky”, almost simultaneously two wedding of Veddell’s seals were born. The color looks like both babies are females. They saw the light on Winter Island, located opposite the Galindes Island, where the Academician Vernadsky is located.
