The Hague hosted the fourth and final preparatory meeting on the establishment of an International Commission for Consideration of Applications for Ukraine, which will award payments for the losses caused by Russian aggression. The Ukrainian delegation was headed by the deputy head of the Presidential Office Irina Wise.
Representatives of 53 states and the EU discussed the project of the International Agreement and determined the date of the diplomatic conference. Official negotiations will begin in March in the Hague.
“By the end of 2025, we have to complete official negotiations and sign an international agreement. We cannot forget about the stories of people we work for. For each statement submitted to the register of losses, there is a family who mourns, a community that seeks to recover, a nation that fights for its future. This is not statistics. It is a life that has been changed forever aggression, ”Irina Wise said.
The application will be the second key element of the international compensation mechanism – one of the priorities of the seventh point of the Peace Formula “Restoration of Justice”.
The first element – the register of losses caused by aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine – has already started receiving applications in the first two categories: the death of a close member of the family and damage or destruction of housing. Work on opening the rest of the categories is ongoing.
