The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine issued a statement regarding Switzerland’s decision to support China’s ideas / photo REUTERSUkraine is “disappointed” by Switzerland’s decision to support the so-called “Sino-Brazilian 6-point consensus”. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.“We cannot understand the logic of such a decision,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reminded that it was in Switzerland that the first Global Peace Summit took place, at which the Ukrainian Peace Formula was promoted.
The ministry emphasized that any discussion of ways to peace in Ukraine should not take place without Ukraine itself. In addition, all peace proposals must be based on the UN Charter and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
“Any initiatives that do not contain a clear reference to the UN Charter and do not guarantee the full restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine are unacceptable. (…) Initiatives that do not recognize the fact of Russia’s unprovoked armed aggression against Ukraine, equate the victim and the aggressor, offer de-escalation at the expense of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territories cannot be supported by Ukraine,” the statement said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Switzerland to avoid participating in “peace initiatives” that could complicate the process of achieving a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace for Ukraine.
Switzerland supported the Sino-Brazilian “peace plan”As UNIAN wrote, earlier today Switzerland announced that it supports the “peace plan” of China and Brazil regarding Ukraine. The spokesperson of the Swiss Foreign Ministry stated that the Sino-Brazilian peace initiative is good because it “calls for a ceasefire and a political solution to the conflict” and “offers an alternative to aggressive rhetoric from both the Ukrainian and Russian sides.”
The “peace plan”, which Brazil and China promised to promote jointly in the spring, consists of six key points. In particular, he proposes to stop hostilities and move to the process of peace negotiations. It also emphasizes the need to protect civilians and exchange prisoners of war. At the same time, the Sino-Brazilian plan does not say anything about the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, the punishment of war criminals or the payment of compensation to Ukraine for the destruction.
