Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center, spoke on the air of Radio NV about the readiness of our energy industry for winter and the support of partners in this direction.
The good news is that we have expanded our imports [електроенергії] from the European Union. And this decision is certainly very positive for Ukraine. We have added 400 MW of capacity that we can import from the European Union.
The second thing that should and should be said is that there is an almost continuous flow of equipment being transported to Ukraine. We already have a very solid stock of equipment at Ukrenergo. I know that appropriate reserves are being formed in other energy companies. And this is also very good news.
The President’s Office denied the information about the alleged agreements between Ukraine and the Russian Federation regarding the cessation of energy strikes
That is, we are really preparing for winter, we are really preparing for possible shocks. Of course, predicting how events will develop is simply impossible in any way. Because we do not know what the mass of the blows will be, what they will be aimed at.
But what can be said now: desperate efforts to restore capacities that were damaged, that were destroyed… So much has been restored now that if there are no attacks, we can go through the winter with a temperature of minus five without restrictions at all . That is, there will be no blackouts, there will be no restrictions on consumers, provided that there are no attacks, and provided that something very serious in terms of generation does not break down.
Because all the same, this generation is in a difficult state. Repairs have been carried out there, restoration has been carried out, but it must be understood that this is not the super-capital restoration that any energy engineer would like to talk about. This restore works now and today. And in order to restore it qualitatively and reliably, it takes much more time.
Therefore, recovery has now taken place in a certain way. Of course, if there are frosts, minus 10-15, especially if they last for several weeks… And here, unfortunately, we have several meteorological scenarios, and there are those that predict a warm winter and relatively comfortable conditions for its passage, and there are those that we are told that there will be a very considerable cooling in the middle of January, and that it will last at least two or three weeks. If this happens, even without attacks, the energy system will have to introduce restrictions, and they will last, I think, somewhere four to six hours a day in such a scenario.
This is something to prepare for, in my opinion, this is what is real. But once again, what the attacks will be, how the physical defense will work, how the anti-aircraft defense will work, what these attacks will be aimed at, how massive they will be, unfortunately, you and I cannot predict today.
