After the meeting ended, something strange happened. Kichenok and Mladenovych did not shake hands. Judging by the video, it was Ludmila who refused to thank Christina for the game, making the appropriate gesture.
The exact reason for such a decision is unknown. Mladenovych said the following in a flash interview:
“I didn’t like their behavior during my serve. I got angry and thought: “Okay, if this is how the match starts, then we need to act more decisively.” It woke me up, and my partner and I were able to find a solution and improve the level of our game.”
Mladenovic has Serbian roots. It was not noticed in the statements about the war against Ukraine.
