Ukrzaliznytsia, together with the Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure, developed changes regarding the flexible pricing of premium tickets and updated rules reimbursement of cost. The price of tickets in “luxury” and 1st class “Intercity” cars will vary depending on the time of year, day of the week, time of purchase and degree of occupancy of the train, and the amount of compensation will depend on the time of cancellation of the trip.

Ukrzaliznytsia introduces dynamic prices for deluxe tickets and new refund rules

Ukrzaliznytsia together with the Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure prepared a draft of changes, which provides for the introduction of dynamic pricing for travel documents of the improved class, as well as new conditions for reimbursement of the price of railway tickets. This was reported by the press center of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences UNN.

Ukrzaliznytsia and the Ministry of Development have prepared a draft of changes related to the purchase and return of railway tickets. The proposed solutions are adopted in the conditions of a full-scale war, when the railway infrastructure and rolling stock are systematically exposed to enemy fire, and the company bears additional costs for the safety, recovery and protection of passengers

– the message says.

Dynamic pricing in the premium segment As noted in the UZ, the price of a travel document in the improved segment will depend on the season, the day of the week, the date of purchase and the degree of occupancy of the train.

“For example, if a passenger buys an improved class ticket for a train from Kyiv to Lviv on the first Monday of February – not at peak time – and does it 20 days before departure, the price of a ticket in a “luxury” carriage will be lower than if a travel document for the same train is purchased in July – at peak time – on Friday, when demand is high and the last seat in the carriage remains,” the company said.

The UZ emphasized that these changes will only affect journeys of the improved class – SV cars (luxury), 1st class of “Intercity” trains – in domestic connections. The price of a trip in reserved, compartment cars, as well as 2nd class “Intercity” trains of internal communication will remain unchanged.

Tariffs for travel in “luxury” carriages of international trains will also be indexed. The cost of these cars will increase by approximately 20%. In other carriages of international trains, the fare will not change.

Update of ticket return rules According to statistics, almost 70% of travel document returns occur 4 days before the departure of the train. At the same time, a significant number of such tickets are not sold again, especially in the case of late returns. This leads to a situation where tickets for the train cannot be purchased at first, and later it goes half-empty.

Ukrzaliznytsia proposed to introduce a scale: the amount returned to the passenger will depend on how far in advance he refuses the trip. The sooner the ticket is returned, the higher the refund will be:

  • if the ticket is returned 15-20 days before the departure of the train, the funds are returned in full;
    • in 10-14 days – 90% of the ticket price is returned;
      • for 5-9 days – 75% of the price;
        • from 1 to 4 days – 50% of the price;
          • less than 24 hours before departure – an average of 30% of the fare is refunded, as is the case now.

            “Important: the changes to the refund conditions apply to all tickets in all carriages, not only the premium segment. At the same time, they may not apply to military personnel and socially vulnerable groups of passengers, in particular people with disabilities, and will not apply to trains to frontline areas. The proposed changes will help distribute demand more evenly between popular and less busy dates, reduce losses from unused tickets and make pricing more dynamic depending on demand”, – concluded in the UZ.

            We will remind On the night of February 5, the Russian occupation forces again attacked the railway infrastructure of Ukraine. A railway worker who was on her way to work was injured in Sumy Oblast. She has already been given the necessary help. At the same time, movement in the frontline areas continues with increased security measures.
