Details: The American agency updated the list of sanctioned persons, removing from it a former official of the largest bank of the aggressor country.

It is subject to American sanctions got into in May 2022. Then Washington expanded the “black list”, adding eight senior officials of Sberbank to it. The US Treasury explained at the time that this decision was part of a large-scale crackdown on individuals and organizations critical to Russia’s ability to wage a war of occupation against Ukraine.
Sberbank itself found itself under US blocking sanctions as early as April 2022.
What preceded:
- In February 2024, the Canadian government lifted sanctions from Burikoformer deputy chairman of the board of “Sberbank” Serhiy Maltsev and member of the board of directors of “Gazprom” Oleksandr Dushka. Also, Canada excluded Olga Aiziman, the ex-wife of sanctioned Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman, from the sanctions list.
