US Secretary of State Marco Rubio does not believe that there will be at least a breakthrough in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia delegations in Istanbul.

“But I want to be frank: I do not think we have great expectations that it will happen tomorrow. To be honest, I think it is absolutely clear that the only way to achieve a breakthrough is (negotiations. – Ed.) Between President Trump and Putin,” he added.

The Secretary of State expressed his belief that Putin was ready for dialogue with Trump “and to determine the way forward and what the path is over.”

Rubio also directly pointed to the level of the Russian delegation, which, he said, “does not indicate a breakthrough.”

“I would like to be mistaken, but honestly, I do not believe that we will reach the breakthrough until President Trump sits at the negotiating table with Putin and will not find out what his intentions for the future,” said the Secretary of State, adding that Trump, in his opinion, divides such assessment.
