US confiscated Russian hackers servers and $ 1 million in bitcoins

Vlad Cherevko I have been interested in all kinds of electronics and technologies since 2004. I like to play computer games, and I understand the work of different gadgets. I regularly monitor the news of the technology in the world and write materials about it.

The US Department of Justice reported the seizure of servers and about $ 1 million in bitcoins from a Russian hacker group involved in the distribution of BlackSuit and Royal programs. Techcrunch writes about it.

BlackSuit and Royal are families of Russian programs that are used to encrypt victims for redemption. Both types of attacks are aimed at making information inaccessible without a special key to decryption that attackers promise to provide after payment.

The operation was conducted on July 24, 2025 with law enforcement officers from Canada, Germany, Ireland, France, the United Kingdom and other countries. As a result, 4 servers and 9 domains used for attacks were confiscated. According to the US Immigration and Customs Control Service, more than 450 organizations in the United States have compromised since 2022, in particular in health, education, energy, public administration and public safety fields.

According to the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency, the total amount of the requirements for the BlackSuit group exceeded $ 500 million, and the largest separate repurchase request was $ 60 million. As of 2025, Cybercrime received more than $ 370 million in redemption.

The confiscated funds were found in the digital exchange account, which was frozen in January 2024. Representatives of the Ministry of Justice stressed that the activity of the grouping posed a serious threat to the critical infrastructure of the United States and the safety of citizens.
