More than half of American businesses in China, the most in the last five years, are concerned about the further deterioration of relations between the world’s two largest economies. This is reported by the Reuters agency. The annual survey of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in China showed that 51% of respondents fear further deterioration of relations between the US and China. The survey was released days after US President Donald Trump began his second term by threatening to raise tariffs on Chinese imports.Advertisement: “A stable and constructive relationship based on economic and trade ties is critical not only for the prosperity of our two countries, but also for the stability of the global economy,” AmCham China Chairman Alvin Liu said. Among the main problems of American companies in China are geopolitical tensions, political uncertainty and trade disputes, according to AmCham China. Trump’s previous term as president was marred by a trade war between the U.S. and China, as well as a general deterioration in diplomatic relations between the countries, which did not improve significantly during Joe Biden’s presidency.Advertisement: On Tuesday, Trump said his administration was discussing a 10% tariff on Chinese imports, which may be introduced as of February 1 due to China’s involvement in the global fentanyl supply chain. Despite this, nearly half of respondents still consider China to be one of the top three priority destinations for global investment, which remains at the same level as last year.
