The Bureau of Economic Security in the Chernivtsi region exposed the illegal production of fermented tobacco, organized by the owner of a local agricultural firm.
According to the BEB press service, the man set up workshops for cleaning, sorting and pressing tobacco leaves, as well as container dryers in the yard.
A full cycle of raw material processing took place here, which was then packaged for further sale throughout the country.
The detectives conducted six searches — at the suspect’s residence, in the premises of the workshop and in adjacent warehouses.
25 tons of raw tobacco, 12 drying containers, specialized equipment, money, telephones and draft records were seized. The approximate amount of the confiscated amount is about 30 million hryvnias.
Currently, the owner of the farm has been charged under Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for the illegal manufacture, storage or sale of excise goods.
