“Some of the programs that we have previously implemented with generous support of the United States are suspended,” she said. These include psychosocial assistance, urgent housing and direct financial support.
Last year, the United States provided 40% of the agency’s total budget, but now, due to the reorientation of the Western states to defense expenditures, the UNCCC received only a quarter of the necessary $ 3.32 billion. These funds were to support 8.2 million people in Ukraine.
“We had to reduce the number of people we prioritize,” Billing said and urged donors to review our funding.
Since the beginning of the year, nearly 9,000 newly arrived displaced persons have passed through transit centers of UHRC in Pavlograd and Sumy, where they received basic assistance – clothing, hygienic kits, legal and psychological support. Most of them were deeply injured and arrived with almost no things.
From August to March, the UNCCC has helped evacuate or move more than 200,000 people from the frontline regions.
