On October 23, the government apparatus adopted a resolution on the allocation of UAH 8 billion to the Ukrzaliznytsia joint-stock company from the state reserve fund an estimate for ensuring the smooth operation of railway connections in the conditions of martial law. People’s deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko informed about this.
“The Cabinet of Ministers allocated UAH 8 billion to Ukrzaliznytsia from the reserve fund of the state budget,” he said on the Telegram channel.
We will remind you that in August, the Verkhovna Rada made corrections to the state budget for 2025 and, among other things, redirected UAH 8 billion of bank profit tax to it. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Yuliya Svyridenko announced that the government apparatus is directing additional funds from the reserve fund to protect and restore Ukrzaliznytsia and the most important infrastructure in the frontline regions. The funds will be used to strengthen energy, transport and vital systems – from generators and battery installations to the construction of engineering protection.
At the same time, the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Economic Development made a proposal and instructed the Government to provide the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine with expenditures from the general fund in the amount of UAH 26 billion for financial support of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” to guarantee uninterrupted passenger transportation, transportation of humanitarian aid and evacuation cargo.
As reported by the Informant, JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” plans to carry out another indexation of freight railway tariffs – by 27% in 2025 and by another 11% from January 1, 2026. The total increase will be more than 40%. The Federation of Transport Employers of Ukraine (FRTU) informed about this. The Federation considers the increase in tariffs to be a strategic mistake, which may lead to a decrease in the freight base of the railway and the appearance of a deficit of funds in the UZ, which will eventually have to be covered from the budget.
