Ukrainian Independent Media has faced financial difficulties due to the suspension of US grant programs, which became known after President Donald Trump’s decree. Among those who openly declared the need for support – Hromadske, Bihus.info and Ukraineer.

Hromadske reported that some of their projects, which were funded at the expense of grant funds, were temporarily suspended.

“That is why we especially need the support of everyone and each of you. Join our Hromadske community – each contribution helps us not to stop,” the media wrote on our Facebook page.

Bihus.info also noted that the USAID agency covers a large part of their activities. Now the audiences are transformed from an additional source of funding into one of the key ones.

“Thank you all who are already with us. We continue to work and believe in the best. And if you really consider our work important-join the gangus.info gang,” the project said on his Facebook page.

The similar calls were “Ukrainian Pravda” and “Media Detector”. Although they have not directly named USAID’s reasons for the reason, their messages are hinted at the need to find alternative sources of financing. Ukrainian Truth warned that in the future, access to materials can be paid, although they seek to maintain openness of their content: “Support us so that we can continue our work without restrictions.”

At the same time, the Media Detector Project, a considerable part of the funding from USAID, has published a request for support on his Facebook page: “Quality journalism is our voice in the world. If we lose it, we will also lose the truth. Support those who work for you here and now. ”

Also, the head of the Ukrainian project Bogdan Logvinenko reported about the problem with funding.

“Yes, ukraaner-media is dependent on USAID funding by 80-90% and the non-breaking of this crisis will mean that you will not see most of our products in a few months. But unfortunately, this does not mean that other media will occupy those niches, What we and others, dependent on American funding, means that you do not look like everything will be littered with oligarchic or Russian content. – the journalist wrote.

The partial problem with funding was also told in the Kherson edition of “Watermelon”. They suspended one of the projects. Evgeniy Virevich’s editor -in -chief added that the project “was both interesting and important”:

“But we have at least a reserve of stability. I constantly care about this stock, especially after occupation, because people depend on me.”

However, the editor noted that the editorial board had the idea of different ways of earnings. In particular, Eugene experimented with the opening of the watermelon online.

“We started a year ago, but this idea was slowed down because of my illness. However, at the end of 2024 we continued its implementation. As if they were felt. Therefore, we will report the update of the range in the near future. In this way, we support not only the editorial staff, but also the Kherson craftsmen and masters. We thought about crowdfunding, but if the situation allows, we will still continue to help the army and civilian Kherson. This is very important to us. For example, I buy books and play them for the Armed Forces. There are already subscribers who drop us money into new books – and it is invaluable, ”said Eugene Virrych.

Recall that on January 20, Donald Trump officially oath as a 47th US President. He began his inaugural speech by the words: “America’s gold begins right now.”

On the same day, it became known that Trump signed a decree suspension of all US foreign aid programs for 90 days to evaluate their compliance with national interests and the goals of American foreign policy. The document was published on the White House official website.
