NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Ukraine’s course remains unchanged and irreversible, but this will not become part of a possible peace agreement with Russia.
He reported this in an interview with the TV channel of ME-Ukraine.
Rutte confirmed that the decision of the Washington Summit in 2024, according to which the path of Ukraine to NATO is recognized as irreversible, continue to operate.
“The path of Ukraine in NATO is irreversible. It was the summit in Washington, and this position did not change. But we have never argued that Ukraine would become part of any peace agreement, ”the NATO President emphasized.
According to him, the task of Western partners is to prevent a temporary truce like the Minsk agreements, but to achieve a sustainable and true peace for Ukraine.
“The US President is working to ensure that Ukraine comes to a real peace, not the next ‘Minsk-3’. We are talking about a real ceasefire and a full peace agreement, ”Rutte added.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said it did not consider Ukraine to enter NATO because of Russia’s position and proposed to consider it as an element of diplomatic settlement. And the leader of German Christian Democrats Friedrich Merz noted that Ukraine, while in a war, could not be adopted in NATO or EU.
